Gardai in Laois have launched a campaign aimed at parents asking them to educate their children on the dangers they may be exposed to online.
They are asking parents to educate themselves about websites and apps that children may be using.
There is a dedicated website for this and Gardai also have advice for anyone who falls victim to online extortion or abuse.
Gardai say: “Please don’t be afraid to speak to your children/teens about the types of online platforms and websites or apps that they use.
“Check out the parents hub on www.webwise.ie for safety tips and advice and also to read up on the types of material or dangers that children/teens may be exposed to online.
“It is important to educate yourself in relation to online safety.
Please assure your child/teen that they can talk to you in relation to their online activity experience whether it be good or bad.
“If your child/teen has fallen victim to any sort of coercion/extortion or otherwise whilst online, please contact Gardaí.”
