Laois GAA unveil plans to play first U-20 football and hurling championship since 2019

Laois GAA has confirmed that they intend to run U-20 football and hurling championships this year.

The last U-20 championships were played back in 2019 – before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Courtwood-Emo defeated Portarlington following extra time in December of that year in the football decider.

While a month earlier, Camross got the better of Raheen Parish Gaels in the hurling equivalent.

Laois GAA are now looking for clubs to enter the 2021 competition.

The competition is set to be played throughout October and November – and clubs who reach Leinster competitions at adult level must agree to play U-20 games a week before or the day after they play in that competition.

Secretary Niall Handy: “It is intended to organise 2021 Laois Shopping Centre U-20 Football and Hurling Championship for late October and conclude it by end of November.

“It is hoped to circulate format and schedule after our next CCC Meeting.

“I am asking Clubs again who wish to participate in these competitions to complete their application via Microsoft Forms link below.

“It will be a condition of entry that Clubs entering these championships are in agreement to play their games a week in advance of Leinster Club competitions or if necessary, the day after (ie being a Sunday).

“Note it is also important that all clubs/independent teams have their U-20 team registered on Foireann and payment made for Player Injury Fund, so as to ensure Injury cover is in place for all their players.

“The closing date for entries is close of business on Monday September 27.”

Clubs who wish to enter can do so by clicking here.
