Bike Week is an annual celebration and promotion of all that’s great about bikes and cycling.
This year, Bike Week kicked off on Sunday September 12 and is to end on Saturday September 18.
Funding has been provided by the Department of Transport to Laois County Council and other Local Authorities across the country to contribute towards a variety of events both on the ground and online throughout the week.
During Bike Week, new and lapsed cyclists have been encouraged to get on the bike and make cycling part of their lifestyle.
People across the country have been able to join in events in their counties and consider cycling as a convenient way to travel on the commute, for shopping trips and leisure.
Enjoying the last of the heat and sunshine on Wednesday morning, students from 5th and 6th class at Maryborough NS were over the moon to take part in a Fun Bike Skills Session at their school grounds in Summerhill.
Green-Schools Officer Karen Moore and Lorraine Flanagan were really thrilled with the turn out and the effort the school had gone to sourcing bikes for the morning.
Bike Week continues in Rathdowney on Saturday with a free cycling skills workshop in Rathdowney Playground at 1pm.
The purpose of the event is to help kids who are looking to learn how to cycle or improve their skills.
It will be followed by a short, supervised cycle and children who take part will receive a certificate.
To register, contact Shane Keegan on 087-6577256 or email sports@laoissports.ie
Bike Week concludes on Sunday in Timahoe for a 10km Cycle, meeting at the Green at 11am.
Photographer Michael Scully has been out and about over the week.
