Timahoe native Karol Ramsbottom has strong claims of tasting success as the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby gets underway at Shelbourne Park on Friday night.
Deadly Destroyer is tipped by many for outright glory and the sponsors have already cut his odds from 25-1 into 20-1 in recent days.
Out of luck in the recent final of the Champion Stakes, the classy performer has posted some sensational displays in recent weeks.
Deadly Destroyer lines up on Friday night, running from the blue jacket of trap two, in heat nine, which is expected to get underway at around 9.05pm.
A son of Droopys Jet, the Garry Hannon-owned runner has won a total of nine times and he comes into this famous competition in great form, winning four of his last six career starts.
His recent form around the Shelbourne Park circuit is top class and all going well, he should be involved in the business end of the event.
The draw for the showpiece event took place at Shelbourne Park on Monday and the winner of this year’s event is set to win a massive €125,000.
And so, the time has come to start really concentrating on the incredible weeks to come.
As you would expect the best of the best are amongst the names in this outstanding event.
With the entry of 150, three will qualify from each of the 25 heats with a grand total of 21 of the fastest fourth-place finishers also progressing, leaving a field of 96 greyhounds for the second round.
The opening rounds get underway at Shelbourne Park on both Friday and Saturday night.
The opening race each night starts shortly after 7pm.
