Portlaoise AFC on form remain unbeaten with impressive win in Leinster Senior League

Portlaoise AFC 4 Dublin Bus 1
Leinster Senior League Division 1A

Portlaoise AFC welcomed Dublin Bus to Rosleighan Park on a perfect Friday evening to watch local football.

Unlike their opening three fixture of the season, the home team started at a blistering pace opening the scoring inside three minutes.

Jason Murphy picked up a ball on the half turn in midfield, looked up to see Chris Mulhall on the run and slid him through on goal with a beautifully disguised pass. Chris took the ball in his stride and rounded the keeper to finish to an empty net.

Portlaoise kept the high intensity on early and added a second inside 5 minutes.

Oisin Fitzpatrick was raiding down the right flank and pulled one back for Paul Cahillane who delivered an inch perfect inswinging cross on to Jay Murphy’s head, who finished high to the keepers right to put the home side two in front.

The game settled into a rhythm after the second goal and dispite having a number of chances, Portlaoise failed to capitalise on a slow start from Dublin Bus.

The Bus slowly started to build their way into the game as the half wore on and on 32 minutes they capitalised on a Matt Cwienk mistake to make it 2-1.

The half time break came at a good time for Portlaoise who regrouped and stared the second half as they had started the first.

New signing Scott Osborne was starting to dominate from his centre half position alongside Aidan McGovern while James Mullaney was creating a different point of attack time and time again with his marauding dribbles forward.

Kilkenny man Jimmy Dermody was a constant threat down the left side and his ball to Paul Cahillane on 61 minutes put Portlaoise on the front foot once more.

Cahillane was able to switch play and put Chris Mulhall in on goal who held the ball up, slid it to the on rushing Colm Poole who then cooly ghosted past the keeper and centre half to calmly side foot to the corner of the net.

The game was wrapped up shortly after on 70 minutes when Paul Cahillane pulled a lovely ball back to the always threatening Jason Murphy who found the top left hand corner with a powerful strike from the edge of the area.

Portlaoise had a great chance to make it 5-1 in the dying moments when Mikey Rogers played a ball through to Aaron Rafter and his left footed strike went just over.

This result sees the Portlaoise side go top of the league for the weekend with a tough away fixture against Kilbarrack United coming up on Wednesday night.
