A major housing development is on the cards in a Laois town after planning permission was submitted recently.
Portarlington is set for 58 new homes in plans submitted to Laois County Council on May 31 on a 1.45 hectare site.
Werdna Limited are behind the development which is earmarked for Station Road in the town.
The proposed site is bounded by the Canal Road to the north, Station Road to the west, Portarlington GAA to the east and Railway Mews to the south.
The development is for 58 houses which are broken into the following types and sizes.
There is to be 30 two-storey houses, which are to be made up of 24 three bed-houses and six two-bed houses.
While there are to be 28 single and two-storey own door dwellings – 24 of which are one bedroom and four are two bedroom.
The development also includes a 2,630sqm communal open space.
The proposal also includes the provision of 80 car parking spaces which are accessed from Railways Mews and 30 bike parking spaces.
And it also sets out plans to demolish ‘non-habitual structures’ of 695sqm.
A decision on the proposed development is due from Laois County Council by the end of July.
