LIVE BLOG: Follow all the action as Laois face Westmeath in U-20 Leinster hurling opener

The Laois U-20 hurlers begin their U-20 Leinster hurling campaign against Westmeath this evening.

Manager Ollie Halley named the starting 15 for the game in O’Moore Park, which throws in at 7.30pm, earlier today.

After years of disappointment at this grade, Laois made a bit of an impression last year by defeating Carlow in Round 1.

They were subsequently beaten by Galway in the quarter final – with the Tribesmen losing the eventual final to Dublin.

This side includes seven players that started that Galway game.

Danny Brennan, Ciaran Burke, Tomas Keyes, Ciaran Byrne, Mark Hennessy, Thep Fitzpatrick and James Duggan.

Camross’ Daniel Delaney started centre forward against Galway but he is named on the bench while Abbeyleix’s Fionan Mahoney, who was wing back last year and is the team captain this year, misses out through injury.

This competition is once again run on a straight knock-out basis so Laois must win to advance.

If they do, they will play the winners of Antrim and Down in Round 2 next week.

We will be live from O’Moore Park this evening where we will bring you all the action as it happens.
