Laois primary school launch fundraiser in aid of new outdoor classroom

A Laois primary school has launched a virtual fundraiser aimed at raising funds for a new outdoor classroom.

The Parents Association in Castlecuffe National School, in Clonaslee, launched the fundraiser at the start of the month.

They are calling on everyone to take part in a ’21k in 21 days’ challenge.

This is part of the 1k a day initiative which is being carried out throughout the month of June.

People are encouraged to walk, hop, skip or run a total of 21km and make a donation to the online fundraiser.

Organisers are thrilled with the response so far since they launched the fundraiser nine days ago.

€860 of the €1,400 target has already been amassed.

They said: “As our children participate in their “k a Day” activities in school in June, we would like to challenge all our school families to match them in our “21K in 21 days” challenge.

“We’ve challenged our families to walk, hop, skip, run, swim or jump a total 21kms between June 1st and 21st as a family.

“This can be over as many activities as you wish.

“After the success of our Buddy Benches we want to continue developing our outdoor learning and meeting spaces with an outdoor classroom.

“The school was delighted to be presented recently with a buddy bench for each of our class bubbles.

“These beautiful benches were kindly presented by the Parents’ Association who applied and were successful in their application for a grant from the Community Enhancement Programme offered by Laois County Council.

“The children couldn’t wait to try them out and no doubt our children’s wellbeing will benefit for years to come.”
