Laois minor hurlers announce 32-player panel ahead of new season

Laois minor hurling manager Declan Qualter has named a 32-player panel ahead of this year’s Leinster championship.

A total of 11 clubs are represented with Camross, Castletown and Clough-Ballacolla leading the way with five players each.

The squad also features eight players who were part of the panel in 2020.

Cody Comerford (The Harps), Colin Byrne (Abbeyleix), Liam Kavanagh (Abbeyleix), Diarmuid Dooley (Rosenallis), Aaron Phelan (Castletown), Barry Fitzpatrick (Portlaoise), Brian Duggan (Ballinakill) and Conor Fitzpatrick (Park-Ratheniska-Timahoe) are selected once again.

The captain or vice-captain for the upcoming season have not yet been confirmed.

Former Waterford manager Derek McGrath has remained in his role as a coach from last season.

While the rest of Qualter’s backroom team is to be made up of Tadhg Doran, Damien Carter, Tomas Hassett and Tom Brennan.

Due to Covid, the Leinster championship is once again being run on a straight knock-out basis this year.

Laois received a bye in Round 1 and will face the winners of Kildare and Carlow on Wednesday July 7.

There will then be a draw for the quarter final places should Laois advance – with that round on the weekend of July 14.

Offaly and Kilkenny are seeded and they will play the winners of the quarter finals on July 21.
