In Pictures: Smiles all around as Park-Ratheniska return to Intermediate football ranks following Junior success

Park-Ratheniska’s six season stay at junior level is over after they were crowned 2020 champions last night.

Kieran Kelly’s charges have been the nearly men on so many occasions since they were relegated in 2014.

On every occasion aside from 2019, they were defeated by the team who would ultimately go on to be crowned champions.

But all of those memories were banished as they defeated Portlaoise in O’Moore Park by 1-8 to 0-9.

Park-Ratheniska last won the junior championship in 2006 and on that day, Kieran Delaney kicked ten points.

15 years later, the full forward was highly influential again as he contributed 1-3 this time.

He wasn’t alone as there were fine performances from Ratheniska players all over the pitch.

Teenager James Connolly was immense beside Delaney in the full forward line while Mark G Delany was selected as man of the match for a tireless performance at wing forward.

Podge Dunne and Brian Fingleton were dynamic in midfield while Richie Hitchcock and Mark Delaney shone at the back.

There were great scenes at full time as Park-Ratheniska players and management celebrated with the 100 or so supporters.

Our photographer Paul Dargan was on hand to capture the celebrations at full time.
