Laois senior football manager Mike Quirke has named his starting 15 for Sunday’s Round 3 Division 2 South encounter with Kildare.
It shows one change to the team that lost to Cork – with Mark Barry coming back in for Brian Byrne.
However, it is believed that there will be several changes from the team that is named here to the one that actually takes to the field tomorrow.
Colm Begley, Donie Kingston and Evan O’Carroll were all forced off injured against Cork and it would be highly unlikely that all three will play in this game.
For Laois to avoid the relegation playoff, a series of unlikely results are required.
For a start, Laois have to win to have any chance and their record against Kildare in the last decade is not good.
But if they do manage to defeat Kildare, they must do it by at least eight points to move ahead of them in the table.
The problem for Laois though is that their fate is also in the hands of Clare.
They need the Banner to defeat Cork by 11 points – or one less should for every point Laois above eight that Laois defeat their neighbours by.
The probability of those two things happening are highly unlikely.
So therefore, a meeting with either Down or Westmeath in the relegation playoff on the weekend of June 12/13 most likely awaits.
LAOIS: Niall Corbet; Robbie Pigott, Mark Timmons, Gareth Dillon; Trevor Collins, Colm Begley, Patrick O’Sullivan; John O’Loughlin, Kieran Lillis; Eoin Lowry, Paul Kingston, Danny O’Reilly; Mark Barry, Donie Kingston, Evan O’Carroll.
Subs: Matthew Byron, Brian Daly, Gary Walsh, Brian Byrne, Alan Farrell, Eoin Buggie, Seamus Lacey, Michael Keogh, Ross Munnelly, Sean O’Flynn, Benny Carroll
