While there is no definite schedule in place for inter-county underage hurling yet this year, Laois U-20 hurling manager Enda Lyons has stepped down from his role.
The Galway native and Ballyfin club man has cited “personal and work committments” for his decision and Laois GAA have announced that Ollie Hally from Clough-Ballacolla, who has been a selector with Lyons in recent years, will take over as manager.
“Laois GAA would like to acknowledge and thank Enda for his contribution to Laois hurling over the last number of years, not alone in the U-20 grade but also at minor and talent academy grades,” said the County Board in a statement this morning.
“We thank Enda for his commitment and professionalism and wish him well in his career.
“Laois GAA would like to wish Ollie Hally best of luck in his endeavours as he now takes over as U-20 hurling manager.
“Any further additions to his backroom team will be finalised in the coming days.”
A former All Ireland U-21 winner with Galway, Lyons has own physio business outside Portlaoise. He was Laois minor hurling manager in 2018 and 2019 before stepping up to the U-20 role in 2020.
Laois recorded a rare win in that grade last year when they got the better of Carlow before losing to Galway in the next round.
Lyons has also been over the Coolderry club in Offaly in recent years.
His replacement Ollie Hally has been involved with numerous underage Laois teams in recent years and is also part of the Clough-Ballacolla management team that have reached the 2020 Laois senior hurling final.
That game against Borris-Kilcotton will be played this summer ahead of the start of the 2021 championship season.
