The Stradbally-Vicarstown-Timahoe SVT Activity and Wellness Hub has launched a novel challenge for St Patrick’s Day.
All clubs in the parish are challenged to run a virtual 10×1 Mile relay, with the aim of breaking 60 minutes for the distance.
Juvenile Clubs, where members are all still in primary or secondary school, can make up teams of 20, with each team member doing 800m
Oughaval AC Juveniles have been doing individual practice runs for the last few days.
Timahoe Ladies Football will have two or more strong teams too while Oughaval AC adult team is working away, quietly, behind the scenes.
One of the organisers, John Scully, hopes to see many groups in the parish taking part.
He said: “The challenge is laid down now to all adult teams and groups in the parish to get involved.
“SVT Hub is an organisation funded by Laois Sports Partnership, Sport Ireland and Laois County Council.
“Its aim is to provide additional opportunities for physical exercise and improved health and wellbeing.
“To date, programmes such as family fun cycles, walking group activities, the SVT Canoeing and Kayaking Club, and junior parkrun have all been introduced by the SVT Hub.
“Big plans have been drawn up for 2021 too, when lockdown eases and Covid restrictions allow.”
