Laois ladies appoint new minor football management team ahead of 2021 season

The Laois ladies have appointed a new minor football management team ahead of the 2021 season.

The 2020 edition of the inter-county competition was canned due to Covid-19 but organisers are hopeful that games will proceed later this year.

Former Laois player Martina Phelan has been unveiled as the new boss.

The Barrowhouse native previously acted as selector at this age group under Timahoe’s Tom McKittrick in 2019 and Paul Mulhall last season.

And Phelan has assembled a very impressive team around her.

2001 All-Ireland winner Patricia Fogarty has been named as a selector while the Park-Ratheniska woman is joined by St Brigid’s Caoimhe Simms – a current Laois footballer.

As they did last year, Sarsfields Maureen Young and The Heath’s Niamh Hyland will also continue in their roles as selectors.

While Olga Loughman of Portlaoise will act as the Female Liaison Officer.

Confirming the news, Laois ladies wished the new management team well.

They said: “We are delighted to announce our minor management for the coming year.

“If any club has any players that they wish to sign up for the Laois minor panel this year, please email Martina on martinaphelan69@gmail.com

“The management team are strong. With plenty of work ahead and every girl will be given equal opportunity to showcase their talent.

“From plenty of defence work to pushing forward to getting the most important scores on the board.

“Wishing management and players all the very best for the coming year.”
