Laois Gardai make four arrests following chase after ‘suspicious activity’

Gardai in Laois made four arrests yesterday after pursuing a stolen car.

Gardai say they discovered a car and its occupants acting suspiciously near Junction 15 off the M7.

A short pursuit ensued before the car was stopped and arrests were made.

They say: “Portlaoise Gardaí out on patrol yesterday evening discovered a car and it occupants acting suspiciously near junction 15 off the M7.

“After a short pursuit the vehicle was stopped and 4 young male occupants were arrested.

“The vehicle had been stolen in Dublin earlier.”

Meanwhile, the man arrested in relation to a €270,000 drugs seizure yesterday has now been charged.

As part of their ongoing efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour in Laois, they searched a property in Mountrath on Friday.

This resulted in a huge number of cannabis plants being seized around 8am that morning.

Gardai say: “The man arrested in relation to this investigation has now been charged.

“He is due to appear before Portlaoise District Court this afternoon at 2pm.”
