Laois GAA unveil details of new supporters club – Laois Gaels

Laois GAA have unveiled details of a brand new supporters club – Laois Gaels.

Headed up by O’Dempsey’s man Bryan Breen, the organisation takes the place of the old Club Laois.

The aim of Laois Gaels is to work alongside the County Board to raise funds and support for Laois GAA teams and players to ensure they can perform to their maximum potential.

The association will provide support to all teams from Laois development squads to senior teams in both codes.

One of the aims of Laois Gaels, through the funds it raises, is to launch a welfare and hardship fund for players.

The fund will support players in areas like mental health, bereavement and other areas of support that the players may require.

Chairman Breen, a Cork native, is well-known in Laois GAA circles for his work with the Laois senior footballers in their management team and as part of the Do It For Dan campaign which saw €3 million raised for little Dan Donoher.

Clough-Ballacolla chairperson Oonagh Maher is also part of the new Laois Gaels group in the role of secretary.

Oonagh is one of the few female chairpersons in the county and is also a member of the Laois GAA PR Committee since 2019.

The rest of the Laois Gaels committee comprises of Laois GAA PRO Paul Dargan, O’Dempsey’s Leo Turley, Ballyroan-Abbey’s MJ Tierney and Rosenallis’ Seamus Dooley.

There are three types of membership available. An adult Gael (€50), junior Gael (€20) and business membership (€100).

Each of these entitle the holder to a welcome pack which includes a hat with Laois Gaels branding, snood with Laois Gaels branding, Car sticker with current year, a membership card which is also a passageway to exclusive offers and competitions which will be ran throughout the year; and a welcome message from Laois Gaels Committee.

A range of other benefits are attached to each package and they can be found on the Laois Gaels website.

Speaking at the launch, chairman Breen said: “This is an opportunity for everyone to collectively have a hand in meaningful change for Laois GAA and to stand together as one for the good of everything we hold dear in the Laois GAA community.

“I am very lucky to have such a fantastic team working with me to help create a sense of engagement and a team of ‘one in it together’ ethos for our Laois teams and our supporters .

“I look forward to what we can deliver in the coming months and years. If there is anyone out there interested in helping or supporting the efforts of Laois Gaels please get in touch. We’re in it together!”
