Annanough have appointed Andy Shortall and Donal Miller as joint managers ahead of the 2021 club season when they will be hoping to make an immediate return to the intermediate grade.
The Vicarstown-based club were relegated to junior in 2020 and having won that competition in 2018 they’ll be seeking a second triumph in the grade in four seasons in 2021.
Shortall, who has managed the club on a number of occasions in the past, most recently in 2014, has managed Carlow and Tipperary in the past as well as spending a year as a selector with Laois under Liam Kearns in 2008 and guiding Laois to win a Leinster minor title in 2005.
Miller, who won a Leinster senior medal with Laois in 2003, is a long-standing player with Annanough having first made his championship debut way back in 1997 when he was only 15.
The two take over from another joint management team, Rory Stapleton and John Scully, who were in charge in 2020. Stapleton has since been appointed Arles-Killeen manager.
The full make up of the 2021 Laois JFC ‘A’ grade is not yet known as the 2020 competition still has to be completed. Park-Ratheniska are due to meet Ballyroan-Abbey in one semi-final with The Heath and Portlaoise in the other semi-final.
The winners of the Junior ‘B’ grade – Spink or Graiguecullen – will also be promoted.
The GAA haven’t announced yet what format the season will take as uncertainty surrounds when games and training will be permitted to resume again.
Most clubs in the county have management teams in place and are organising training programmes for their players to do on their own.
