Laois on the hunt for new minor hurling boss as Dunne departs

Laois GAA are on the hunt for a new minor hurling manager as Liam Dunne has decided not to seek a second term.

The Clough-Ballacolla man was appointed last year with Ollie Quinlan and Tim Fahey as his selectors.

While former Waterford manager Derek McGrath also came on board as a coach.

This was a fancied Laois team following their exploits two years ago when they, as U-15s, defeated Waterford to claim the Arrabawn Shield.

But unfortunately things did not go to play in Round 1 of the Leinster championship.

Liam Dunne’s charges went down by 12 points in the end with the excellent Lochlan Quinn hitting 15 points for Offaly in a 2-18 to 0-12 defeat.

County Secretary Niall Handy informed clubs of Dunne’s decision and sought nominations for his replacement.

He said: “Outgoing Manager Liam Dunne has informed Laois GAA Management Committee that he is stepping down from this role.

“As a result, Laois GAA Management Committee is seeking nominations of interested and suitable candidates for the position of Laois GAA Minor Hurling Manager and /or suitable qualified coaches.

“If you know of an interested and suitable candidate, please forward name and contact details to secretary.laois@gaa.ie before close of business on Friday 18 December 2020.”
