Laois duo excel as Bohemians claim League of Ireland U-17 glory

Bohemians claimed the U-17 League of Ireland title last night – with two Laois teenagers playing crucial roles.

Portlaoise natives Colin Conroy and Aaron Doran both starred as their side defeated Shamrock Rovers 2-0 in the final in the UCD Bowl.

The lads, who are both in fifth year in Portlaoise CBS, were heavily involved in all of the positive things that their side did over the 90 minutes.

Indeed, it took only 15 seconds for former Portlaoise AFC striker Doran to give Bohemians the lead.

Evan Ferguson set up the chance for Aaron Doran with a beautiful through ball into his path and Doran applied a clinical finish to give Killian Cahill little chance of keeping it out.

The second Bohemians goal arrived midway in the half when goalkeeper Reece Byrne began a swift counter attack with a well place goal kick which found Doran on the left flank and his pace got him past Oisin Hand to cross low into box where Ferguson brilliantly flicked the ball past a helpless Cahill.

On a miserable evening, a 2-0 lead was huge and Bohs would go on to dominate the remainder of the game.

Much of this was made possible by midfielder Colin Conroy who controlled that area of the field virtually from start to finish.

He impressed so much, that he was subsequently awarded the man of the match.

It is the second time that the Portlaoise duo have tasted success with Bohemians – following their Mark Farren Cup triumph last year.

But after the year and disjointed season they’ve had to endure, this win will, no doubt, be very sweet.

Well done lads!
