The Heath senior men’s rounders team go in search of an All-Ireland final place

The Heath senior men’s rounders team go in search of a place in the All-Ireland final as they take on Carrickmacross from Monaghan this Saturday in Longford.

The Heath topped their group and remain unbeaten throughout the year with impressive displays against Cuchulainn of Carlow, Limekiln of Dublin and Adamstown of Wexford.

The Heath’s first game was against Cuchulainn who were making their return to the senior rounders scene after being absent for a number of years.

Both teams got off to a nervous start but the men in black and amber started to move through the gears in the 2nd and 3rd innings to build up a lead that Cuchulainn couldn’t claw back.

The Heath saw out the game on a scoreline of 12-7 and registered their first win of the season. Then the partial lockdown struck and games against Limekiln and Adamstown had to be rescheduled.

Next up for The Heath was a trip to old foes Limekiln, with The Heath knowing a win would guarantee them a semi-final place.

The game was even after the 1st innings with the score 2-2, The Heath then showed all their experience in the 2nd innings with James Farrell leading with the bat punishing the home side’s poor fielding.

To Limekiln’s credit though, they pushed The Heath all the way. They fought back to leave three in the game with the score at 11-8.

Limekiln now needed 4 to win in the last innings but James Kavanagh’s brilliant bowling limited the home side with The Heath securing the win to book their place in the semi-final.

The Heath now had to travel to Wexford to face Adamstown with a win securing top spot in the group. Adamstown had nothing to play for, so they played like a team with no pressure on them and went after The Heath.

The Heath went into the final inning leading by two with Adamstown needing three for a surprise win.

It was like the Limekiln game for The Heath as yet again the impressive Kavanagh turned the heat on the Adamstown’s batters with Tom Moore sealing the win with a great catch meaning The Heath topped their group after a hard-fought game in Wexford.

In the other men’s semi final pits Glynn/Barntown of Wexford who knocked out reigning champions Erne Eagles out last weekend play Limekiln of Dublin.

The Heath Team: Rory Treacy, Tom Moore, James Kavanagh, Justin Keane, Seamus Gorman, Jamie Dowling, Philip Keane, Mick Slevin, Diarmaid Lalor, James Farrell and Austin O’Meara
