We’re onto the second full weekend of the Laois GAA football championships and we have four games today.
Up first at 3pm is the meeting of Stradbally and St Joseph’s in Round 2 of the senior championship. Both teams come into this game off the back of defeats – albeit St Joseph’s loss is almost four weeks ago.
They were two points up in injury time when Diarmuid Whelan scored a very late goal to break their hearts.
Stradbally pushed Portarlington throughout the game but just faded near the end in their defeat.
Whoever loses here is out and Alan Hartnett is on blogging duty.
The second game of the day is a repeat of last year’s dramatic semi final encounter between champions Portlaoise and Portarlington.
A number of players who played 12 months ago are unlikely to be involved today.
For Portlaoise, Michael Nolan, Brian Mulligan and Bruno McCormack have all retired, Colin Finn is playing intermediate while there are injury concerns around Brian Glynn and Benny Carroll.
Portarlington’s star forward Colm Murphy limped off in the win against Stradbally and would have to be a major doubt for them. Alex Mohan will be back from suspension but Paddy O’Sullivan is still abroad.
That game is at 5pm in O’Moore Park and the third game, at 7pm, between Ballylinan and Rosenallis is not.
Due to the lights situation, Rory Delaney will be reporting live form the LOETB Centre of Excellence for that game.
In between those two games, at 6pm, The Rock and Clonaslee will meet in Round 2 of the intermediate championship and we will have updates from that too.
