A Laois trainer brought up a remarkable four-in-a-row success over the weekend.
A Step Too Far was victorious on her fourth successive start for Portarlington trainer Kieran Cotter.
The mare, who previously enjoyed success in Naas and Bellewstown, ran in Navan looking to bring up a remarkable four timer.
She was in the Troytown Bar Handicap which was the feature race on the day and went off at 4/1.
Saddled by AJ Farragher this time, the mare raced to a 3/4 length win and took home the €12,600 first prize for owners Sinead and Dermot Dunne who are also from Portarlington.
Speaking to IrishRacing.com afterwards, trainer Cotter, who now has eight wins this season, explained how she will now be aimed at a big race in The Curragh later in the month.
He said: “The dream continues! We actually believed she could win today. She has so much raw speed that horses have to work hard to get to her.
“She had eight stone on her back and on the climb in the last two furlongs it just told today. We were standing beside the handicapper there and he just started laughing! So I don’t know what he’s going to do to us now.
“Four in a row in this country is a big achievement. Since we started leading her down to the start she hasn’t been boiling over. We train her a bit different now because she’s just wired at home. We have a handle on her.
“Four weeks ago we had an eye on the Joe McGrath towards the end of the month so she’d be entitled to go and have a crack there. We’ve had great fun with her.
“That was a fair step up today but she just has so much raw pace that she’s able to tank along. She has a high cruising speed and other horses have to struggle to get to her, especially in a sprint.
“It seems to have fallen that way that we’ve got sprinters. We haven’t had any mile or mile-and-a-half horses. They just haven’t been sent to us, it’ll happen some day.”
