Brought to you in association with Telfords, Portlaoise and Mountrath
After a busy weekend of action in the top three grades of the Laois hurling championships, the picture is now clear as to who will play who in the knockout stages.
Rathdowney-Errill’s big win over Abbeyleix on Sunday mean they will play Borris-Kilcotton in what will be a repeat of last year’s final while surprise package Rosenallis will meet Clough-Ballacolla in the other semi-final. Both games are provisionally fixed for MW Hire O’Moore Park on Sunday, September 27.
Meanwhile, Ballinakill’s narrow loss to Camross means that they now face Castletown in the relegation decider in two weeks time.
In the Premier IHC, Portlaoise’s 1-20 to 2-10 win over Slieve Bloom mean that Portlaoise will play Camross’s second team in the semi-final. The other semi-final in that grade will see an unbeaten Harps side take on Slieve Bloom.
In the relegation game in that competition, there will be a local derby of sorts with Laois’s newest club Colt-Shanahoe taking on Mountrath to see who makes the drop.
In the intermediate grade, Borris-Kilcotton and Clough-Ballacolla had big wins over Park-Ratheniska/Timahoe and Mountmellick respectively to go through meaning Mountmellick lose out on scoring difference.
In the relegation game, Park-Ratheniska/Timahoe will meet Ballypickas.
All the hurling games are scheduled for two weeks time – the weekend of September 26-27 – while the finals are fixed for two weeks later – October 10-11.
