A Laois trainer bagged his tenth winner of the flat season in Dundalk on Friday night.
Ahyoka, at odds of 15/2, won the DundalkStadium.com Handicap, for Portarlington based Kieran Cotter.
He scooped the €5,400 first prize and he wasn’t Cotter’s only success on what was a very profitable night.
St Geroge’s Head later came home third in the HOLLYWOODBETS Apprentice Handicap to claim €1,000.
Speaking to IrishRacing.com, Cotter said: “We were delighted with that. I couldn’t believe she was 10/1 this morning given her good run at the Curragh,” said Cotter.
“She’s been improving all the time and she was a good buy for €600 by Niall O’Callaghan down in Cork. He was up last week and will be thrilled that she’s won.
“She was still a bit free, that was only her fifth run. Hopefully she’ll be able to carry a penalty and go on again.
“We fancied her coming here, we thought if we got a low draw we’d be home and hosed. She was drawn on the outside but we told Colin to go forward.
“There was nothing for her immediately but we’re in no panic, she’ll be up and down here for the winter.”
It was the perfect start to a weekend that will feature a very busy Sunday in The Curragh for Cotter as two of his main horses are set to clash.
A Step Too Far is seeking her sixth straight win and she will take on stable companion Inflection Point – along with 16 others – at 2.30pm this afternoon.
The pair go in the Heffernan Tyres Joe McGrath Handicap and are currently among the favourites in the betting.
