Laois senior hurling team named for trip to Kilkenny

The Laois hurling team to play Kilkenny shows three changes from the side that beat Carlow to preserve their Division 1 status last weekend.

After a couple of sub appearances, Ronan Broderick from Clough-Ballacolla comes in for his first league start at wing-back in place of Jack Kelly.

James Keyes and Colm Stapleton, who both missed last week’s game against Carlow due to injury, come in to form a new midfield partnership with Rosenallis duo John Lennon and Fiachra C Fennell making way.

Sunday’s game has been switched to Nowlan Park in Kilkenny from Portlaoise as the MW Hire O’Moore Park pitch struggles to cope with the number of games it has held recently.

Four games were played there in poor conditions in seven days last week and with the Laois footballers due to play Kildare on Saturday night, a decision was made to give up home advantage.

The game is effectively a dead rubber as Laois are safe from relegation but can’t make the knockout stages while Kilkenny are almost certain to go through to the league quarter-finals.

Laois will also plays Kilkenny in the Leinster championship in May.

The game throws in at 2pm in Nowlan Park in Kilkenny in Kilkenny.

The Laois team in full is: Enda Rowland; Liam Senior, Matthew Whelan, Donnacha Hartnett; Ronan Comerford, Podge Delaney, Ciaran McEvoy; James Keyes, Colm Stapleton; Aaron Dunphy, James Ryan, Paddy Purcell; Ross King, Willie Dunphy, Eoin Gaughan
