Laois football team named for Sunday’s Division 2 league clash with Cavan

The Laois football team has been named for Sunday’s Allianz Football League Division 2 clash with Cavan in MW O’Moore Park.

Laois manager Mike Quirke has named an unchanged team from the one that beat Armagh last Saturday.

Laois have made a promising start to this campaign, their first in Division 2 since 2016. They currently top the table on three points from two games. Roscommon are bottom on one with everyone else on two.

They drew away to last year’s Connacht champions Roscommon in the opening round before recording an impressive win over Armagh at home last Saturday.

Cavan slumped to a heavy defeat to Armagh in their first outing but recovered well to beat Westmeath at home last Saturday.

Under Mickey Graham, who famously guided Longford club Mullinaleaghta to Leinster glory in 2018, Cavan reached the Ulster final last year for the first time since 2001.

After Sunday’s game, Laois have a two-week break before they travel to Clare on Sunday, February 23. They are then at home to Kildare the following Saturday before finishing up with away trips to Fermanagh and Westmeath.

Other games this in Division 2 this weekend see Armagh host Kildare on Saturday night, Clare travel to Roscommon on Sunday and Westmeath at home to Fermanagh, also on Sunday.

Laois are favourites at 8/13 with Cavan at 7/4 and the draw at 15/2.
