Quirke announces Laois football team to take on Roscommon

Mike Quirke has named his team for the Laois footballers opening game of the Allianz National League.

They will travel to Dr Hyde Park in Roscommon on Sunday for a 2pm throw-in.

Speaking in the build up to the opening game, Quirke is feeling positive about where his players and the improvements made over the last few months, throughout the O’Byrne Cup.

The Kerry man named Portlaoise’s Kieran Lillis as captain during the week and he will be accompanied by two vice-captains, John O’Loughlin and Colm Begley.

Laois began the new season with O’Byrne Cup defeats to Meath and Wexford but they ended that competition with an away win over Wicklow.

And now, all roads lead to Roscommon.

Here is Sunday’s team:

LAOIS – Niall Corbett; Trevor Collins, Mark Timmons, Gearoid Hanrahan; Sean O’Flynn, Robert Pigott, Patrick O’Sullivan; John O’Loughlin, Sean Byrne; Michael Keogh, Colm Murphy, Eoin Lowry; Mark Barry, Kieran Lillis, Evan O’Carroll
