Local primary school adds two ASD classes for children with autism

Castletown NS have been sanctioned for two Autism Spectrum Disorder classes for children with autism.

Exclusively mainstream classes aren’t always the best setting for autistic students.

Students will be able to attend this ASD class within a mainstream school which will allow them to integrate into a mainstream school community.

Students availing of the classes will be able to participate as far as possible in the curriculum, but with additional supports and resources in the areas they find difficult to cope with.

The two classes are set to start in September of this year.

Jemma Lynch, principal of Castletown NS said it is “really really exciting, it promotes wonderful integration between the students.”

More jobs will come from this fantastic project also as two new teachers will be needed and up to ten new Special Needs Assistants.

Seán Fleming TD helped with this new and exciting project for Castletown NS.
