Laois priest’s horse ‘Total Recall’ wins big chase at Gowran Park

A horse with big Laois connections galloped to glory in Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase at Gowran this afternoon.

‘Total Recall’ won at odds of 16/1 and he is owned by the Slaneyville Syndicate.

That syndicate has eight members and one of them is Parish Priest of Portlaoise Monsignor John Byrne.

The race was run in heavy fog making it different to see who was winning but when the horses got to the second last, Total Recall was in the clear.

The 11-year-old galloped clear from there and won by five lengths in the end.

Winning the 18-runner race netted connections a total of €59,000.

Trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by Danny Mullins, Total Recall has been introduced into the Grand National betting by Betfair at 25-1 and RaceBets at 28-1.

He is the second horse with Laois connections to win the race after Mickos Dream won it in 2000 with Jason Titley on board.
