The Laois senior footballers got their National League Division 2 campaign underway on Sunday and emerged from Dr Hyde Park with a draw.
Mike Quirke’s men went into the game as underdogs but scored two goals in the final six minutes of the affair to leave Connacht with a point.
They also utilized the new offensive mark rule well – scoring four in comparison to Roscommon’s one.
And speaking about the new rules afterwards, manager Quirke believes it is a good thing.
He said: “There will be mistakes for the first couple of weeks of this but I think that anything which encourages midfielders or half backs to start kicking the ball into the forwards is a good thing.
“It may not work and we may be scrapping it but I think it was brought in initially because the game was turning into handpassing and loads of bodies behind the ball.
“So I think this is an incentive for teams to kick the ball and I think that is good for Gaelic football.”
Laois are back in action in Round 2 this Saturday evening in O’Moore Park at 6pm against Armagh.
