Portlaoise CBS 4-18 Bunclody (Wexford) 0-4
Top Oil South Leinster ‘B’ Senior Football Championship Round 2

Conor Goode, Darragh Carolan and Paddy Hosey were on fire as Portlaoise CBS made it three straight wins to qualify for the semi finals of the South Leinster Senior ‘B’ Football Championship.

The side, manager by Killian Fitzpatrick and Paul Cahillane, wracked up a huge score once again as they claimed top spot in the group and set up a home semi final next month.

After an impressive Round 1 win over Bagnelstown was followed by a thumping victory over Carnew, Portlaoise CBS knew a win here would see them top their group.

Bunclody actually got the game’s first score but Conor Goode quickly levelled proceedings before he combined with James Connolly for the first goal.

Paddy Hosey and Darragh Carolan chipped in with points before a high ball from Eamonn Delaney resulted in a scramble where Goode was on hand to slot in his second goal.

Bunclody responded with two more frees but that would be their last scores of the half as Hosey, Carolan, Brian Fingleton and James Connolly all split the posts to leave the CBS 2-10 to 0-3 ahead at half time.

Any chance that Bunclody had of mounting a comeback evaporated in the opening minute of the second half as the excellenr Darragh Carolan blasted home a great goal.

And the icing was put on the cake moments later when James Connolly’s pinpoint 35-yard pass picked out Paddy Hosey and he made no mistake with a devastating finish.

Portlaoise ran the changes after that but they continued to score with Conor Booth, Ben Brennan and Damon Larkin adding points for a fine win.

They must now await the winners of the quarter final games to see who they will face in the last four.
