Brennan hits out at hurling fixtures insisting they ‘need to be looked at’

Laois will begin their Allianz Hurling League campaign this week as they take on Wexford in O’Moore Park at 7pm.
This is the beginning the fixtures for this season, of which Manager, Eddie Brennan, believes need to be looked at and changed, leaving January out of the mix.
He said: “For me, once and for all the fixtures need to be looked at. So, that means getting some former players and managers who understand the coalface of hurling to sit down in a working group.
“I think January needs to be left alone to Third Level competitions.”
The former Kilkenny hurler says the fixtures need to accommodate players so they can focus on one competition at time.
“Right now, you are having to start earlier and earlier. It needs to be cleaner.
“When they are with colleges, they are with colleges, when they are with us, they are with us and then they are with their clubs,” he explained.
“At the end of the Leinster championship, two teams are finished for the season as the 7th or 8th of June. So are we sitting down and talking collectively at all because what is the logic at all?
“And I know we have great games in the group stage but that is covering the cracks and ultimately it is the club player who is suffering.
“They are being shoved into a time of the year when the evenings are getting a bit longer and then it is shut down until the end of the year,” added the eight-time All Ireland winner.
