Laois take on Offaly in Round 1 O’Byrne Cup in McCann Park, Portarlington at 2pm.
During the week, Laois manager Mike Quirke confirmed that Donie and Paul Kingston have opted out of this year’s panel but stalwarts Ross Munnelly, Colm Begley and Mark Timmons are all back for another year.
There are a lot of fresh faces on the panel and a lot of young guns aiming to make their mark.
There will be first Laois senior starts today for Clonaslee’s Niall Corbet, Portarlington’s Jason Moore, Stradbally native Garry Comerford, Ballyfin’s Darragh Connolly and last season’s U-20 player Diarmuid Whelan from Ballyroan-Abbey.
Laois will play three group games in the 2020 O’Byrne Cup – away to Wexford next Saturday and against Meath in the New Year.
Laois knocked Offaly out of the championship last year in Round 3 of the All Ireland Qualifiers in O’Moore Park.
Offaly, under John Maughan, will play in Division 3 next season while Laois will be in Division 2.
